Let the Music Play . . .

Music moves me. Physically and emotionally. Makes me want to dance. Or makes me dance. Not necessarily well, but dance, nonetheless. Kind of like sex. My body moves to what it feels. Lyrics interest me, amuse me, make me cry. I feel a good bass line deep in my chest. I love the power moments in a song - a good bridge, right before the last chorus. Voices touch me - the Indigo Girls, Eddie Vedder . . .

I'm the girl singing in the car in rush hour. Dancing in my seat at a stoplight. The one in a bar who will be unconsciously moving, even if she's not on the dance floor. As a teenager, I never missed Casey Kasem's Top 40. As a college student, I was a band groupie. Dated a guitarist. Later, dated his lead singer. This pissed the guitarist off. Later married a doctor. Who plays guitar. But I digress . . .

I always have my radio on. Flipping between all my favorite presets. I'm ADD (maybe its ADHD?) with the radio. I will flip channels until I find what I want . . . then flip 2 minutes into the song, just to see if I'm missing something better. I can't stand the commercials. I have to find music. It drives some of my passengers crazy. CD's help, but after I listen to my three favorite songs, I'm bored again. Now I have a six-disc changer - should load it up - but still, not enough variety. One of these days I'll have to just breakdown and get an MP3.

Today, my au pair gave me a gift. One of the most thoughtful gifts I've received in a long time. She'd burned a CD. She's lived with us for six months, and she's been paying attention to songs that make me sing and dance in the car. The ones that hold my attention for more than 20 seconds. A ton of my favorites were there:
  • "Wake Up Call" - Maroon 5 (I don't know why I'm amused that he kills her lover)
  • "Paralyzer" - Finger 11
  • "Zombie" - The Cranberries (talk about a plaintive voice)
  • "Wicked Game" - Chris Isaak ("what a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way . . .")
  • "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" - Israel "Iz" Kamakawiwo Ole (ok, a 500 pound man playing ukelele is unusual, and he screws up the original lyrics ALL THE TIME, but its very soothing and relaxing)
And on, and on, and on.

It was the perfect drive music this morning.

Made better only by relatively moderate traffic.

And my hot, new red shoes.

Let the music play.

Respectfully submitted,

The Wife

The Cranberries are one of my favorite bands to listen to while on my motorcycle. Zombie, Dreams, Linger and the rest. A month ago I broke down and got the $9.99 iTunes special: The Cranberries: Stars - The Best of 1992-2002.

Highly recommend it!

Did that post REALLY need the sex reference? LOL

As you know, I bought an MP3 player before I left for Iraq. Amazingly I use it every day, but only in the gym. After looking around at all the options, I think I should have splurged for the iPod - probably the nano with the small screen for movies. If I remember correctly, your new car has an iPod jack. You should get one.

I've been gone for a bit M.
Too long and I'm sorry.

These were rather interesting musical perspectives. My favorite line in The Wicked Game is,
"It's strange what desire will make foolish people do." I think it must have a familiar ring to it.

To the Doc - the sexual tension in all of these songs, can only be experienced with that one true love no matter what. The body is moving for a reason. Trust me I know of what I speak. If you learn only one thing from me, (besides Scotch is a dangerous drug) learn that this tension is building for a reason.
TAKE ADVANTAGE!
TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE !

Go with the flow, is NOT bad advice.

I just returned from a trip to Japan. Ginza, Tokyo to be exact. While there I went to a spa to have my nails done. There was another woman there with the same shoes on her feet but in tan instead of red. And Ginza, Tokyo is one of the most up to the minute fashion capitals in the world. I screeched with delight and am dying to get home so I can find a pair of my very own!
